Vladimír's bookstore Serius and the civic association PLAC cordially invite you to the 22nd lecture in the "printed architecture" series. This time on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 6:30 PM in Jablonec, we will welcome architectural theorist, critic, and historian Henrieta Moravčíková, who will talk about the book dedicated to Friedrich Weinwurm - one of the most admirable architects working in Slovakia.

Prof. Dr. Ing. arch. Henrieta Moravčíková (*1963) studied architecture at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. She works as a research scientist and head of the Department of Architecture at the Institute of Construction and Architecture of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, where she focuses on the theory, history, and criticism of 20th and 21st-century architecture. She is the editor and a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Architecture & Urbanism. From 1997 to 2009, she was the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Arch about architecture and other cultures. Since 2002, she has been the chairwoman of the Slovak working group of DOCOMOMO - an international organization for the research and preservation of modern architecture. She has published several monographs, dozens of studies, and critiques on 20th and 21st-century architecture. She has prepared numerous domestic and international architectural exhibitions. She is a co-author (with M. Dulla) of the extensive book publication Architecture of Slovakia in the 20th Century (Slovart 2002) and the editor of the first comprehensive monograph on Slovak architecture Architecture in Slovakia: A Brief History (Slovart 2005). She collaborated with L. Kaboš on the first feature-length documentary about modern architecture in Slovakia, produced by Slovak Television in 2008. She teaches at the graduate level at the Faculty of Architecture at STU. She is the recipient of the Literary Fund Award and the Martin Kusý Award for theoretical work in the field of architecture.
The lecture will focus on the book: Friedrich Weinwurm Architect/Architect. Friedrich Weinwurm, a contemporary of Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Walter Gropius, and one of the most admirable architects active in Slovakia, was one of the leading representatives of the Central European architectural avant-garde. He designed and built dozens of office buildings, family houses, villas, and residential complexes (Nová Doba, Unitas), which we admire to this day. His progressive social program and clear principles of architectural creation influenced the Slovak architectural scene of the interwar period like no other architect's work.
