It is well known that FERMACELL Powerpanel H2O cement-bonded boards are suitable for wet areas, and among their main advantages are also low weight, high resistance to mechanical stress, top-notch fire protection, and noise protection, lightweight processing and easy attachment, minimal volume changes, and European certification. In February 2010, however, another advantage of these top construction materials for dry construction was presented to the domestic public for the first time at the Wooden Building Fair - the ability to bend FERMACELL Powerpanel H2O boards, thereby allowing the production of curved walls.
When manufacturing these walls from Powerpanel H2O boards with a thickness of 12.5 mm and a length of ≥ 2,000 mm, there are three variants of execution, and the choice of a suitable method depends primarily on the radius of curvature of the created surface. For a radius of ≥ 4,000 mm with a distance between lower structures of ≤ 312.5 mm, large-format Powerpanel H2O boards of length ≥ 2,000 mm are used, which are attached across the lower structure. For a radius of ≥ 1,500 mm to ≤ 4,000 mm bending with a spacing of the lower structure of ≤ 250 mm, FERMACELL Powerpanel H2O boards are bent using a template, where the core of the board breaks (the integrity of the material is ensured by the reinforcing fabric in the covering layers of the board). In the third variant - bend radii under 1,500 mm (which can be beneficial in, for example, interior design solutions) - the boards must be cut before bending to the required radius with 7 to 10 cuts to a depth of min. 7 mm and max. 9 mm, with the distance between individual cuts not less than 35 mm. The bending radius can be easily calculated - see the materials at www.fermacell.cz, in the "Downloads" section, Bending Structures. The surface of the board after bending and fastening to the lower construction is further finished with full-surface filling and the installation of FERMACELL reinforcing fabric into flexible FERMACELL adhesive or FERMACELL Powerpanel leveling compound.
With double-layer cladding, we can even achieve free-standing objects such as shower stalls, columns, shaped partition walls, screens - entirely without lower construction, using the technology of gluing the boards together with FERMACELL floor adhesive. For creating such constructions, large-format FERMACELL Powerpanel H2O boards are recommended.
Bending cement-bonded Powerpanel H2O boards were also used in the construction of the House of Climate in Bremerhaven, Germany. All spaces where the wall constructions are subjected to permanent water load were made from cement-bonded boards for wet spaces FERMACELL POWERPANEL H2O. The lightweight concrete boards with a sandwich structure, reinforced with alkali-resistant glass fiber fabric, are maximally water and mold resistant, and their high stability enabled the construction of highly loaded structures that are additionally resistant to scratching and impact. The boards are non-combustible and comply with fire reaction class A, achieving fire resistance F120 (EI 120) when double-layer cladding is used. A total of 12,000 m² of FERMACELL fiberboard with a thickness of 12.5 mm and 3,000 m² of cement-bonded FERMACELL Powerpanel H2O boards were used for the House of Climate in Bremerhaven.
