The CEO of KOMA, which is renting a pavilion to the Czech Republic for EXPO 2015, announced today in Milan what will happen to the elegant building after the conclusion of the Universal Exposition. The company somewhat surprisingly did not accept the highest financial offer, but instead opted for the opportunity to make the pavilion a new symbol for the home city and region.

"We will dismantle the pavilion, transport it, and rebuild it in Vizovice," announced KOMA's director Stanislav Martinec, "three main reasons led me to this decision: first, we sold the modules we produced due to our success at EXPO to Paris, Hamburg, London, and other cities; second, we care a lot about preserving the original character and architecture of the building and its practical use; and third, I am a patriot, so when Tomáš Baťa could build the tallest building in Europe in Zlín in his time, we can build the EXPO pavilion in Vizovice."

The price of the building exceeds one hundred million crowns - the state will only pay sixty million for its rental, while the transportation and reconstruction of the pavilion will cost KOMA several tens of millions more.

"This is not a self-serving gesture," adds Stanislav Martinec, "I seriously considered all offers, including one where the pavilion could stand near the restaurant from EXPO 1958 in Letná, but after discussions with architects Ms. Eva Jiřičná and David Vávra, I chose Vizovice."

The Czech Republic pavilion will be transported from Italy by the end of 2015, and during 2016 it will rise in Vizovice and will serve as an exhibition space focusing on the historical legacy of Czech participation in EXPO, with emphasis on the Milan event. The upper floors will serve as the administrative center of KOMA.

"For us, what is essential is that we could present a functional, ecological, and yet elegant building at EXPO, whose innovative construction generated such interest that KOMA's investment was recouped even before EXPO ended," comments the announcement of the pavilion's transport to Vizovice by general commissioner Jiří František Potužník, "EXPO is meant to promote the Czech scientific, industrial, and cultural potential, and this is proof that our companies are competitive on a global scale."

EXPO 2015 is taking place in Milan from May 1 to October 31, 2015, and about thirty private companies contributed over fifty million crowns to the national participation, which is the most in the modern history of World Expositions. Total investments exceed two hundred million crowns.
