This weekend, the South Bohemian castle Bzí experienced an extraordinary success. The second year of the Catherine Celebrations welcomed more than 1,500 people who came to see how the restoration of this unique cultural monument is progressing. Visitors saw for the first time two newly completed apartments in the Tavern, the first finished interiors of the entire complex, the new children's playground Bzíkulov, and the event was grandly concluded with videomapping directly on the castle's facade.
At the same time, reservations for weddings, celebrations, and teambuilding events were launched, with the first dates available from March 1, 2027. All revenues from these reservations will be used exclusively for the further restoration of the castle and the entire estate.
The feast of St. Catherine traditionally closes the fall and opens a time of calm before the beginning of Advent. It is this atmosphere that the architectural and design studio Loxia, which owns and is gradually reconstructing the Bzí estate, has built upon. Thus, the second year of the celebrations once again connected tradition, crafts, music, and the vision for the future of this exceptional place.
Private events will begin here soon
Visitors had the opportunity to glimpse into otherwise inaccessible spaces and see how the extensive renovation is progressing. For example, two model apartments have been created in the castle Tavern – one for families and one for weddings. From 2027, it will be possible to reserve the entire castle Tavern, which will feature two halls, each with a capacity of up to 145 people. Overnight stays will also be available in apartments with a capacity for up to 80 guests. In addition to the Tavern, the courtyard and pond with a pier, island, and house on the water will also be accessible.
The future space is designed so that every wedding and celebration can adapt to various ideas and requirements. The highlight of the entire area is a private island in the middle of the pond – Felicitá Island, which is ideal for an intimate ceremony, photography, or romance for two. For newlyweds, there will also be an exclusive Casa del Amor, a romantic apartment right on the water's surface, where they can enjoy peace and privacy all day and night.
In the castle itself, Loxia, along with restorers, is gradually revealing traces of history – fragments of original paintings, construction layers, and stories that have long been hidden. This confirms that the castle has significant cultural value, which will gradually be rescued in cooperation with heritage preservationists. Loxia collaborates with a specialist restoration company with extensive experience in the heritage restoration of historic buildings to save historical values and individual artistic and craft elements.
Also new is the children's playground Bzíkulov, where children entertained themselves and tried out the marble run. The playground is named after the new mascot of Bzí – the little bat Bzíkul.
"The total costs of restoring the Bzí estate exceed 600 million crowns. We are financing the first part from our own resources and plan to take a loan for the remaining substantially larger part," explains Milan Veselý, the founder of the architectural and design studio Loxia and co-owner of the Bzí estate. "We have divided the reconstruction into individual phases so that each gradually generates its own income and helps repay the loan. This way, we can proceed step by step and manage the project financially. At the same time, it holds true that every reservation and every purchased item helps restore the monument. We greatly appreciate this and thank everyone who is part of the rescue of the Bzí estate," he says.
Traditional November Fair
As part of the Catherine celebrations, visitors enjoyed not only a tour but also a fair, medieval music, knightly duels, dancing, and craft demonstrations.
This is not a modern celebration. The Catherine celebrations have celebrated the cycle of life in its purest form since time immemorial, not only in our country but around the world. Particularly in France and Canada, they are traditionally associated with craft markets and fairs that have been held for centuries and always offer traditional regional specialties.
