Kährs Life Authentic: Durable and eco-friendly wooden flooring

The new collection of Swedish wooden floors Kährs Life Authentic offers seven decors ranging from light oak to darker colored shades in an ultra-matt lacquer with a brushed surface that enhances the authenticity of real wood. Everything is, of course, done with consideration for sustainability principles: Kährs uses wood efficiently; therefore, the wear layer is only 0.6 mm, but due to the hard supporting HDF board, the flooring has an increased resistance level equivalent to exotic hardwoods and is also suitable for commercial spaces. The maximum utilization of tree trunks allows the Kährs Life Authentic collection to remain affordable compared to other flooring in the pure sorting category.

"These are attractive, natural, warmer shades; even the bleached versions have a hint of brown. Thanks to the gentle brushing, which emphasizes the wood structure both visually and to the touch, the floor feels like it is made from solid wood. The decors unequivocally evoke the impression of a more expensive floor," complimented Aleš Viktorin, regional sales manager of Kratochvíl parket profi, the importer of the Kährs brand.

The oldest European manufacturer of wooden floors has managed to modify the surface by brushing even with such a thin wear layer (0.6 mm), which highlights the natural wood structure. The authentic look of the solid plank floor is further emphasized by the micro-beveled V grooves around the entire perimeter of the plank and especially the ultra-matt lacquer: "People want a matte surface that looks like oil, but at the same time, no one wants to care for such a floor as intensively as for an oiled floor, i.e., with regular re-oiling, etc. Ultra-matt lacquer does not require such maintenance while looking like oil. It allows the beauty of the wood to shine through, unlike satin and glossy lacquers that can influence the visual impression of the floor with their shine in modern glassed, and therefore significantly well-lit interiors," continues Aleš Viktorin from KPP.

Clean decors, with minimal knots and irregularities, which are always the most expensive in wooden floors, remain priced around 1390 CZK/m² excluding VAT in the new Kährs Life Authentic collection, compared to usually significantly higher prices around three thousand. "Sorting the wood for clean decors is more challenging; the yield from the tree is lower, and you need more trunks, which is why clean decors are always more expensive," explains Aleš Viktorin from KPP. However, since Kährs uses wood efficiently, and the wear layer is 0.6 mm, the Kährs Life Authentic collection remains affordable. While the wear layer does not allow for sanding, this is compensated by the durable lacquer layer, which significantly extends the unchanged appearance of the surface and the lifespan of the floors in this new series. For those who prefer a more rustic floor, this collection also features three decors in a livelier Dynamic sorting.

Resistance at the level of exotic woods

In addition to design, Aleš Viktorin from KPP highlights the technical properties of the nearly two-meter planks Kährs Life Authentic, which have a structural height of only 10 mm and significant resistance to point loading thanks to the central HDF supporting board. "The surface is less prone to pressure marks, such as from shoes with sharp heels, due to the high-density HDF board," explains Aleš Viktorin from KPP. The structural height of only 10 mm increases the efficiency of underfloor heating and is suitable for renovations where every millimeter in height is usually saved. "At the same time, the thickness of 10 mm is ideal for new buildings, where it is necessary to connect the flooring to tiles, which typically also have a structural height of 10 mm, thus creating a smooth plane between rooms," continues Aleš Viktorin from KPP.

The structure of the three-layer wooden flooring Kährs Life Authentic consists of a bottom layer made of real wood, an HDF board with a 5G locking joint for installation without expansion joints up to an area of 25 × 15 m (provided that the manufacturer's guidelines are followed), and the top wear layer of wood of the highest quality protected by a highly durable ultra-matt lacquer. The core made of a new generation hard HDF board also guarantees increased resistance to impact, stability in temperature and humidity fluctuations in the interior. At the same time, it elevates oak to the level of exotic woods in terms of hardness according to the Brinell hardness scale. For this reason, the Kährs Life Authentic collection is also suitable for commercial spaces with demanding operations, such as hotels, restaurants, and shops. This is backed by a fire class of Bfl-s1, the highest in the offer of Kährs decors, which is a safety standard required, for example, for escape corridors in public buildings.
