The new minimalist hardware NOMAD is a combination of the original idea of Czech architect Eva Le Peutrec, who lives in the South Pacific, and the skilled manufacturing experience of the family workshop M&T based in Dobruška. How did the distant collaboration on the NOMAD handle go?
The collaboration with architect Eva Le Peutrec was initiated by the family workshop M&T, located in Dobruška, East Bohemia. "In addition to our own development and innovations, we value collaboration with architects who have their own visions and are able to design not only impressive exteriors but also finely synchronize interiors. And these important interior details include original door handles," says Roman Ulich, the chief designer of M&T.
Communication regarding the design and production of the NOMAD handle took place at a distance that was literally "across half the world." "At the very beginning, we met in person with Eva Le Peutrec, explained the structural 'mantinels' of our mechanisms for operating the handle on the doors, and set a common possible direction for the design. The next step was up to Eva. Due to the considerable distance from her residence, we gradually communicated the designs and subsequent adjustments via email," describes Roman Ulich and adds: "We worked on the NOMAD handle for almost two years – we were in no rush. Given the proposed extremely subtle construction, we conducted testing trials on our robotic workstation to ensure the necessary strength."
In the final handle, Eva Le Peutrec also projected part of herself – specifically in its name. As the author herself explains: "By my nature, I am a kind of nomad. I love traveling; it inspires me. And the design of the NOMAD handle came about during a journey from Prague, through Helsinki and Osaka, to the South Pacific."
For the NOMAD handle, one can choose from eleven surface finishes, which can be freely combined on the individual visible segments. The handle is also available in a Touch variant with fine knurling. The NOMAD collection also includes window hardware.
