Whether newly built or renovated, playgrounds, sports facilities, and stadiums always require quality lighting. The desired lighting is sufficiently strong yet non-glare, which will not create unwanted contrasting shadows and will also not generate unnecessary light pollution.
Simple but effective modernization of football field lighting
The executive committee of the RAFK Rajhrad football club demanded the modernization of the lighting of its football field for training purposes, with an emphasis on quality, long lifespan, and optimal price/performance ratio. According to the assignment, a lighting project was developed based on the standard for sports facility lighting ČSN EN 12193, and a tender was announced for the supplier of the new lighting.
The old lighting for the football field consisted of 10 poles, each featuring a combination of sodium discharge lamps and halogen floodlights with a power consumption of 2500 W. The reconstruction, considering the purpose of the field's use, did not require further investments in new poles or electrical installations. However, if the field is to be used for professional matches, the lighting standard is much stricter, and the project would thus require a more extensive investment.
In Rajhrad, energy-efficient LED lights LEDVANCE Floodlight Performance with a power consumption of 290 W, a high luminous efficiency of up to 140 lm/W, an asymmetrical optic for area lighting (beam angle of 55x100°), a light color temperature of 4,000 K, and IP66 protection were used as replacements. This light fixture has a robust black aluminum body with tempered glass and can be operated in a wide temperature range of -30 to +50°, which is essential for outdoor use. The existing pole locations were utilized, which is a completely common requirement in similar projects, and the old fixtures were replaced with LED floodlights in a 1:1 style, meaning piece for piece. The new fixtures distribute light very homogeneously, compactly, and with a low glare factor. They are installed with a zero tilt, so no light escapes in the opposite direction, and thus the fixtures do not generate unnecessary light smog in the upper semi-space. If needed, the LEDVANCE Floodlight Performance in DALI version can be connected and controlled via the eponymous communication protocol, thereby increasing efficiency and achieving further savings during operation.
