Well-designed roof glazing – using modern technologies – gives rooms more space, airiness, natural light, and makes them more attractive, all while maintaining year-round thermal comfort.
Attic spaces have a unique atmosphere shaped largely by the incoming light, and their genius loci attracts new residents and builders. “I argue that private investors and developers will see a rich return on investment in high-quality and beautiful roof glazing – either in the sale price of the apartment or in the joy of living in it. Just imagine these rooms with one or two common types of roof windows,” says Jakub Formánek from the glazing supplier Solara. “There is another way. Such studio windows define the first impression of the interior; it is a joy for us as manufacturers as well.”
Czech consulting, German certification
A quality design for loft glazing depends on the profiles used and their insulation, the parameters of the glazing, shading, and the quality of assembly into the roof structure. The sliding roof windows PERSPEKTIV from the Czech manufacturer Solara, as seen in the photographs from Vienna and Prague, can be opened manually or with invisible electric openers. The rain sensor system and backup power source ensure automatic closure during rain and in case of a power outage. “We address these options during personal meetings with architects, at construction inspection days, and sometimes just over the phone or via email directly with the customer. We advise on how to choose tailored glass for summer sun or winter frost, what shading system is suitable for studio windows and which one works poorly, how to connect window openers to controlled ventilation or the apartment's intelligence, and so on,” describes Jakub Formánek how the consulting for the technologies used takes place.
The Solara PERSPEKTIV sliding windows are certified in Germany. “Obtaining the German certification IFT Rosenheim for our roof windows was, of course, a process associated with paperwork, which few really enjoy, but the collaboration with the technicians and engineers from the Bavarian window institute was fair; I would say straightforward.” In 2018, a new design version of the windows was certified, equipped with overhanging glass, sharper profile contours, and several other features.
