In an era where light defines the quality of space and transparency becomes synonymous with modern design, glazed industrial partitions occupy a position as a key architectural element. They are not just a practical way to divide space – these elements bring a philosophy of connection that transforms the traditional concept of interior architecture. The Czech company Dorsis, a manufacturer of premium door systems, has the greatest experience in the development and production of industrial partitions.
Light as a Fundamental Building Material
Modern architecture increasingly works with light as a fully-fledged building material. While traditional partitions clearly define and separate spaces, glazed variants offer an interesting paradox – they divide while simultaneously connecting.
"We found inspiration for creating glazed partitions in old industrial buildings," says Jan Krejčí, managing director of Dorsis. "However, the touch of industrial design brings to modern interiors not only the beauty of minimalism but also perfect functionality – allowing for effective separation of internal spaces while maintaining full light transmission."
Variability as a Response to Changing Needs
Contemporary interiors must respond to the changing needs of their users. While in commercial spaces this may involve the need for flexible office space division, in households, we increasingly encounter the concept of multifunctional zones that seamlessly transition into one another.
The dimensional and structural variability of the DIGERO partitions is truly remarkable. The width of the partition can be theoretically unlimited, the height can reach up to 3000 mm, and the profiles are available in thicknesses of 10, 15, and 30 mm. The choice of partitioning and door leaf can be resolved individually, which gives architects the freedom to create unique compositions that reflect the character of the space and the needs of the client.
Industrial Aesthetics as an Expressive Medium
The industrial style is not just a design trend – it is an expression of a certain philosophy that celebrates functionalism, the honesty of materials, and straightforward construction. Glazed partitions with thin metal profiles perfectly embody these values.
This approach reflects a broader trend in contemporary architecture – a return to elements that have already proven their value in the past, but are now being reshaped with modern technologies and materials. Industrial heritage thus gains a new context in modern residential and commercial spaces.
Transparency and Privacy: An Apparent Contradiction
One of the biggest challenges when designing modern interiors is balancing the need for openness while ensuring sufficient privacy. Glazed partitions elegantly solve this issue thanks to a wide range of glass finishing options.
In addition to fully transparent glass, Dorsis also offers design glasses with various patterns and levels of transparency. This allows architects to subtly regulate the degree of visual connection between spaces – from full transparency to merely indicating the presence of light behind the partition.
Acoustic Comfort of Glazed Partitions
A common concern when designing glazed partition elements is the issue of acoustics. Glazed partitions may raise fears of insufficient sound insulation, which is especially crucial in office spaces or households where it is necessary to separate quiet zones from social areas. However, quality construction and, above all, precise execution ensure the same acoustic attenuation as a standard drywall partition.
"At Dorsis, we do not perceive doors or partitions as mere technical elements of the interior. On the contrary, they represent an individual and fully designed element that allows expressing the aesthetic opinion of the builder, while ensuring maximum comfort," explains Jan Krejčí. "By fully controlling the entire process of development – design – production – implementation, we can adapt the Digero partition to the aesthetics and demands of each interior."
