Rigips, s.r.o., has been organizing the national rounds of the Saint-Gobain Gypsum Trophy world competition for ten years to support the craft skills of drywall companies. At the festive gala evening on March 18, 2008, three winning projects were announced according to the evaluation by the expert jury as well as the Public Prize.

During the festive gala evening held by Rigips on March 18, 2008, the long-hidden winning projects of the international competition Saint-Gobain Gypsum Trophy 2008 (until 2006 BPB Trophy) were announced at the National House in Vinohrady, Prague. The evening, full of surprises, original realizations, trophies, and a unique show by the Metro Black Theatre, was hosted by sports news presenter Jana Adamcová.

The competition is aimed at implementing companies and its goal is to promote the art, skill, and quality of work of the implementation companies that process products and systems of the Rigips brand. The competition is announced every two years, as the entry project must be completed by the deadline. Each "biennial" has two rounds – national and international. A total of 37 projects were submitted for the national round of the Saint-Gobain Gypsum Trophy 2008, covering a wide range of applications for the Rigips systems. From the construction of a large commercial-administrative center, through renovations and reconstructions of historical buildings, to the construction and modifications of family houses – in this competition, the size of the project is not crucial, but primarily the originality of the constructions, the use of special techniques, and the overall technical standard of processing.
The winner of the national round of the Saint-Gobain Gypsum Trophy 2008 was decided by the expert jury at the end of 2007. The winning realizations will be presented on June 6, 2008, at the world forum in Brussels, Belgium.

For the first time this year, the Public Prize competition for the national round was announced. It was possible to view the competing projects and vote on Rigips's website.

Results of the Saint-Gobain Gypsum Trophy 2008

1st place
New construction of office space for Monster, Luxembourg Plaza, Prague

Implementation company: Růžička s.r.o., Prague
Architect: Architekti CCA, s.r.o., Ing. arch. J. Šaňáková, Ing. arch. S. Candráková, Ing. arch. M. Capák

The creation of office space in a modern, architecturally unique commercial object was facilitated by the Rigips dry internal construction systems. The architect truly played with them. Using atypical partitions and standalone drywall dividers, the vast impersonal open-space office was divided into smaller, cozier units. With Riflex drywall constructions, the islands of meeting rooms were bordered, where we would have sought straight and right-angled walls in vain. Vivid pastel colors and relentless lighting would reveal the slightest inaccuracy on the rounded constructions, which is why only the most skilled drywallers were called in.
Combining sound-absorbing and reflective Casoprano panels achieved excellent acoustic comfort even in such a large space. The suspended drywall ceilings, mimicking the shape of the partitions, also divide the color-varied floor and conceal the necessary lighting.

2nd place
Revitalization of the Větruše restaurant in Ústí nad Labem

Implementation company: North stav a.s., Ústí nad Labem
Architect: Archateliér 2000, a.s., Ing. arch. Jana Kallmünzerová

The vantage restaurant at Větruše castle, which towers near the city center, is not only a sought-after destination for tourists but also a dominant feature of the entire Ústí region. The revitalization of the pleasant Zlatopramen restaurant's interior was carried out using Rigips dry internal construction systems. Flexible Riflex boards were used to create a cross vault under the existing flat ceiling.
This, along with arched windows, helps to evoke the period atmosphere of the castle. The absolutely imperceptible transition of the drywall vault to the perimeter walls of the historical building and its precise continuation onto the pillars testify to the masterfully executed work by the workers of the drywall company. The interior design of the restaurant, the service, and the harmonization of all construction details create a whole that is evidence of a high standard and brings everything one might expect from a restaurant of this character.

3rd place
Reconstruction of unused space into a store for Artěl in Prague

Implementation company: B&V GIPS CZ s.r.o., Lanškroun
Architect: Ing. arch. Petr Václavek, Věra Korandová

The retail gallery of glass products from the Czech-American company Artěl in Prague's Old Town was created by remodeling unused commercial spaces of the Zlatý Anděl hotel. The impressive designs of this representative interior helped to put into practice the drywall systems, from which elegant niches with integrated halogen lighting were constructed as front walls. These small shelves with atypical arches, whose edges are reinforced by special flexible profiles, became a test of the skills of the workers from the implementation company.
The color scheme of the drywall ceiling and partitions utilizes dark shades that, together with the light cast along the surfaces, impose high requirements on workmanship quality. Artistic objects will be displayed in glass showcases, where drywall also assisted in their construction. The original use of drywall and its precise processing is itself a work of art.

Public Prize
Reconstruction of the interior of the Voroněž inter-hotel in Brno

Implementation company: GipsCon, s.r.o., Brno
Architects: ak. arch. Václav Hejna, ak. arch. Václav Hodan, ak. arch. Martin Vrátník, Ing. Lukáš Srch, Ing. arch. Pavel Rada

The interiors of the Brno Voroněž inter-hotel have long not met the visions and requirements of a modern hotel, frequently visited primarily by business clientele, and therefore have undergone extensive reconstruction. The representative common spaces, such as the reception, restaurant, and bar, were redesigned using Rigips dry internal construction systems.
In the restaurant, a flat drywall ceiling with recessed spotlights was created, showcasing the massive octagonal light fixtures. Multi-level ceiling drops above the staircase are lined with interesting light ramps. Every bar visitor's gaze is certainly drawn to the suspended arched ceiling, whose precisely executed arched edges underscore interesting lighting. The quality of the work done by the implementation company will certainly be appreciated by visitors of international fairs from around the world.
