A twelve-part video series titled Building with an Architect, which will run on the websites INTRA, INTROHOUSES, and YouTube channel from mid-July to December this year, is the result of collaboration between the magazine INTRO and renowned architect Jan Tesař. He will guide you through the construction of a family house from selecting a plot of land to the execution of construction works.

Building a family house comes with many pitfalls. What questions should you ask before selecting a building plot, how to roughly calculate the cost of your own housing, and what to watch out for during planning and construction will be revealed to you by Jan Tesař in twelve episodes of several-minute podcasts. You can also look forward to a number of interesting guests, such as landscape architect Lucie Vogelová from the Terra Florida studio, who will focus on garden planning in one of the introductory episodes of the series. You will also learn how to deal with an atypical plot and what advantages it may have, what can be learned from urban and regulatory plans, how to select appropriate structural solutions, building materials or windows, what shape the roof should have, and other useful insights regarding financial budgeting, the duration of the approval process, or the choice of a construction company.

Jan Tesař, an authorized architect and lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, has been active since 2008 in an author duo with Ján Stempelem under the brand Stempel & Tesař architects. They have a number of successful realizations to their credit, with a significant part of their work being the designs of family houses, about which they have published several publications (Czech Houses and three volumes of 99 Houses). In the upcoming video series, Jan Tesař will share his experiences gained over many years of practice with you and help you better navigate the whole issue. And what other advantages can working with an architect bring?
