Brno is negotiating with the hospital about a land exchange to build a parking structure in Bohunice

Brno - The Brno City Hall is negotiating with the management of the University Hospital (FN) Brno about an exchange of land in Bohunice, where the city would like to build a parking garage. It would also serve the staff and patients of the hospital, said councilor Jiří Oliva (SOCDEM) in the Brno Metropolitan magazine. There has long been a shortage of parking near the hospital, which is why the healthcare facility welcomes the plan. At the same time, by the exchange, it would acquire a garden in Černé Polje, which directly adjoins the Children's Hospital complex. The project is still in the conceptual phase, said FN Brno director Ivo Rovný to ČTK today.

"Almost everyone who has ever driven to the University Hospital in Bohunice knows that parking is not at all great there. Moreover, the large unsightly parking lot in front of the hospital complex is not being used effectively. The land belongs to the hospital, so we are now intensively negotiating with its management to transfer part of it to the city, which could build a parking garage there,” said Oliva.

The feasibility study for the parking garage is complete, and the city is now preparing the land exchange. In addition to the land needed for the garage, it would also acquire some other plots that the hospital has no use for, such as under the bike path in Pisárky. The land would be exchanged for the garden in Černé Polje.

According to Rovný, the hospital does not have funds for the parking garage, although it recognizes that the parking situation is tense. "Collaboration with the city is a meaningful project. The city is interested in additional parking capacity, and we want to solve parking for visitors and staff. At the same time, we are striving for land near the Children's Hospital, which would serve for its future development,” said Rovný.

A parking garage is also set to be built near the Children's Hospital. FN Brno has already selected the contractor and is currently waiting for the building permit.
