Jan Šépka is one of the architects who enjoy exploring the field of experimental architecture. His work often transcends into the realm of visual art and leans toward playfulness. In his lecture, which will take place on November 27, 2014, at 6:00 PM in the Ostrava Antikvariat and Club Fiducia, he will present those works that are most characteristic of these traits.
Jan Šépka was born in 1969 in Prague. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University and the School of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In 1994, he initiated, together with Michal Kuzemenský, the association New Czech Work. In 1998, he co-founded and was a partner at the office HŠH Architects, which operated until 2009. He then established his own office, Šépka Architects: www.sepka-architekti.cz. From 2004 to 2014, he served as a teacher at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Since 2014, he has been the head of the Project and Competition Office at IPR in Prague and, since September 2014, has been leading the A1 studio at UMPRUM. Several projects he has contributed to have received awards both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Among the most famous are the modifications of the Upper Square in Olomouc, the Archdiocesan Museum in Olomouc, a villa in Beroun, Villa Hermína, and Room in the Landscape in Modrava.
The event is organized by Antikvariat and Club Fiducia in collaboration with art historian Martin Strakoš.
