Hodkovice nad Mohelkou – Hodkovice nad Mohelkou in the Liberec Region are preparing to renovate the historic town hall building for more than 95 million crowns. The repair of the approximately 215-year-old cultural monument is expected to begin in September and will last for two and a half years. The city has secured a fifty-million-euro European grant for it. It comes from the ITI program, said the Deputy Mayor of Hodkovice, Helena Řezáčová (Future for Hodkovice).
The Neo-Renaissance town hall will undergo a complete renovation. An elevator will be added to ensure accessibility, new water, sewage and gas connections will be installed, and workers will also replace all internal electrical and water systems, windows, and heating sources. The roof, including the trusses, which are infested with wood-destroying fungi and beetles, will also be completely repaired. "There is timber, dry rot, and woodborer," specified Řezáčová.
The repairs will also include making the town hall tower accessible. "It has not been accessible to the public until now. The tower has the original unique clock, so we will be able to show visitors the clock mechanism," stated the Deputy Mayor.
The company that will carry out the renovation has already been selected by the Hodkovice leadership. The contract was awarded to the Česká Lípa company CL-EVANS for the price of 78.9 million crowns exclusive of tax. The Deputy Mayor expects that work on the town hall, built between 1811 and 1812, will commence in September. The planned duration is 30 months, until the beginning of spring 2029. Part of the city office will be located elsewhere during the renovation. "Last year, we completed the renovation of the roof of the building next to the town hall, where part of the office, accounting department, and building authority are located. At this moment, some offices are ready there, where part of our office can be relocated," added Řezáčová.
