The Kroměříž Town Hall wants to start the construction of a multifunctional sports hall this year

Kroměříž - The Kroměříž town hall aims to start building a multifunctional sports hall this year. The construction is expected to take about a year and a half, Mayor Tomáš Opatrný (ANO) told ČTK. According to the project, the costs amount to approximately 300 million crowns. However, the final amount will depend on how much the city can tender the construction for this year, according to the mayor. The town hall is striving to cover part of the costs with subsidies from the National Sports Agency and Zlín Region.

The sports hall, measuring 40 by 20 meters, is long overdue for the 28,000-strong town, which is suitable for indoor sports. It should be built next to the football stadium and swimming pool on Obvodová Street. In the budget for this year, Kroměříž has earmarked 30 million crowns for its construction. This year, at least a transformer station, which is essential for the operation of the hall, should be built. "The hall is designed to be multifunctional, which means for the widest range of sports. We have completed the project, and the procedure for obtaining a building permit is underway," Opatrný said.

In the hall, it will be possible to play volleyball, basketball, footvolley, floorball, futsal, handball, table tennis, badminton, and futsal. It will also serve gymnastics and dance sports. The auditorium is planned to have a capacity of approximately 400 spectators. A parking lot should be created next to the hall. Currently, indoor sports can only be practiced at the competitive level in the long-standing TJ Slavia sports hall on Kotojedská Street, which is primarily booked for basketball. Thus, there is limited space left for other sports.

The town hall has been preparing the construction of the sports hall for several years. The current city administration wanted to start the construction last year but was unsuccessful. "The approval of the construction was complicated by one of the participants in the building procedure. He contested that the building permits originally planned by the former landowner in the area had to be canceled first. In the end, he abandoned his plans for the site where the new sports hall is to be located," Opatrný said.

This year, Kroměříž also plans to invest in other sports facilities. The budget earmarks 12 million crowns for the roof repair of the TJ Slavia hall, and an additional 300,000 crowns is allocated for the project documentation for the partial reconstruction of the hall. Four million crowns are prepared for the project documentation for the reconstruction of the interior of the swimming pool.

"We are also thinking about the Bajda swimming pool, where we are planning a small slide, other attractions for children, stairs to the large pool for elderly and disabled citizens, repaving the areas around the pool, changing the railings, and adding furniture," said Deputy Mayor Karel Holík (SOCDEM).

The construction of a multifunctional playground in the local part of Hradisko will cost seven million crowns. An additional 1.2 million crowns is allocated for facilities for a leisure area in the local part of Kotojedy. The budget also includes funds for the maintenance and improvement of children's playgrounds. The highest amount, 1.2 million crowns, is to go towards the playground in the courtyard on Švabinského embankment.
