Karlova Studánka - The State Mountain Spa Karlova Studánka in Bruntál has terminated its contract for cooperation in the preparation and construction of the House of Nature of Jeseníky. According to the spa management, the reason is a disruption in communication during the preparation of the project and concerns about the protection of natural healing resources. Lucie Špačková, the spa's media representative, informed ČTK today. The tripartite contract was signed two years ago by the spa, the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic (AOPK), and the Moravian-Silesian Region. ČTK is seeking their statements.
The planned House of Nature of Jeseníky aims to bring visitors closer to the Jeseníky Mountains. It will offer interactive exhibitions, educational programs, thematic lectures, exhibitions, screenings, and creative workshops. The project is set to be built on state land, with AOPK as the investor and the spa as the operator.
The spa director Martin Voženílek stated that the project did not undergo sufficient discussion in the preparatory phase, despite the spa managing the area and being responsible for the protection of healing resources. "There has been a failure in communication and coordination from the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic. During the project preparation, we did not receive important documents, and we were not always included in key moments of the entire process," said Voženílek.
Spa balneotechnician Tomáš Kocman mentioned that the proposed solution involves interventions up to four meters deep. "This directly threatens precious natural healing resources. As a holder of professional competence for the protection of natural healing resources, I cannot agree with this. The project in its current form impacts the protective zone of carbonated water springs and peat deposits. These healing resources are a significant part of the spa treatments in Karlova Studánka," said Kocman.
Spa representatives emphasized that they do not oppose a professional discussion about the House of Nature Jeseníky or seeking an appropriate solution. "If the project were to arise in a location or form that would not threaten natural healing resources and the spa site, we are prepared to negotiate such a solution," Voženílek stated.
The Mountain Spa Karlova Studánka in the Jeseníky Mountains is the highest located spa in the Czech Republic. People with respiratory, musculoskeletal, and circulatory diseases, patients after cancer treatment, patients with skin diseases, nervous disorders, and also those with mental disorders are treated there. The spa treats more than 3,000 patients annually, who have access to 464 beds.
