Mělník – Mělník will announce a new tender for the repair of the swimming pool, as the result of the original one, which concerned a complete transformation, significantly exceeded the expected costs by 100 million Czech crowns. Instead, the city council wants to first replace the pool basins and water treatment technology. The aim is to complete this before the summer season of 2027. The selected company will ensure both the project and its implementation, city hall spokesperson Jan Denemark Nováček told ČTK today.
In June this year, the city announced a contract for the complete repair of the swimming pool, which was estimated to cost around 200 million Czech crowns, but the best offer in the selection process was about half as high again. Therefore, the city reassessed the scope of the reconstruction. "We want to repair the swimming pool and simultaneously modernize it. At the same time, we have to responsibly manage the city's money. We don't want to carry out an investment at any cost and significantly exceed the originally planned budget," stated the mayor of Mělník, Tomáš Martinec (ODS).
The original contract included not only the reconstruction of the pools and their technological and operational facilities but also the demolition of the swimming pool facilities and the construction of new ones, including changing rooms, hygiene facilities, lifeguard facilities, new refreshment areas, and so on. A children's playground and a beach volleyball court were also to be created. The modifications were expected to provide conditions for hosting cultural events, such as concerts, as well as sports tournaments.
The current pools are at the end of their lifespan, and their maintenance is costly. The water treatment technology is in a state of emergency. The swimming pool has been in operation since the 1970s. It underwent a major modernization in 2001, after which investments have been mainly focused on partial repairs and modifications.
