Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav - Next year, a unique Dutch-style lifting bridge will follow the new crossing of the Elbe River under the castle in Brandýs nad Labem. It will span the navigation chamber and connect the entire area from the castle to Hluchov and Houštka. The design of both bridges was presented by the town on Facebook. The town aims to establish a safe connection between both parts of the city for pedestrians and cyclists by the end of next year, said the mayor of the town, Petr Soukup (Our Twin City).

The larger bridge will end at Nábřeží Street, and in case of problems on the Generál Liška bridge, it will accommodate light vehicles of the integrated rescue system. "The subsequent bridge will be a lifting bridge, known as the Dutch type, it will be a technical rarity throughout the republic," said Soukup. The lifting bridge between the embankment and Hluchov near the navigation chamber will open, for example, for the passage of boats or during floods.

The main bridge over the Elbe, which will follow the route of the original historic bridge, is already under construction. "For now, these are not visible things; during the winter, parts will be cast that the bridge will be assembled from. This is done in winter because it involves high-strength concrete that generates a large amount of heat," said Soukup.

The lifting bridge, which will be electronically connected to the chamber gates, is, according to Soukup, more of a device than a construction. "The price is not clear yet, according to current estimates, six to seven million crowns," said Soukup. The main bridge should be completed by the end of September next year. "We would like to complete the lifting bridge simultaneously, but there will certainly be a number of problems and solutions; it will be a turnkey solution," added Soukup. The author of the bridges is architect Petr Tej.

The construction of the bridge has been prepared by the town for several years and was accompanied by a number of complications, especially high costs. The main bridge over the Elbe will cost 85 million crowns, a large part of the costs will be covered by the town from subsidies. The crucial factor for launching this costly investment was the agreement between the town and the Elbe River Basin Authority that the connection will continue with the lifting bridge over the navigation chamber.
