Dvůr Králové nad Labem - Today, the city of Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region officially commenced the long-prepared reconstruction of the bus station by handing over the first part of the construction site. The project, costing 133 million crowns, is being undertaken by a consortium of companies Eurovia CZ and Stako. Miroslava Kameníková, the city spokesperson, informed ČTK about this today. The reconstruction of the station into a modern transport terminal is one of the investment priorities of the fifteen-thousand-strong city.

The work is expected to last 18 months. The city has secured a grant of 63.5 million crowns from the European Regional Program IROP for this purpose. The city also hopes to obtain an additional grant of 10 million crowns from the region.

The reconstruction of the bus station will begin with the renovation of the dispatch building, where facilities for passengers and transport providers as well as their employees will be created. Currently, the construction will not bring any significant traffic restrictions, and buses will depart from the current stands. "Restrictions will occur only next year, and we will inform the public in due time," stated Deputy Mayor Vítězslav Šturma (Síla Dvora). For instance, a temporary relocation of bus stops to the nearby Dobrovského Street is planned.

The reconstruction of the bus station and dispatch building will include new asphalt surfaces and covered platforms. The builders will also modify the adjacent public spaces on Erbenova and 17. listopadu Streets. There will also be a new intersection on 17. listopadu Street as part of the construction.

A key factor for the reconstruction was acquiring the station into the city's ownership. The nearly hectare site was purchased from the company Arriva at the end of 2019 for 9.9 million crowns. In 2021, the parties agreed to purchase the dispatch building and the adjacent land for 4.95 million crowns. In 2022, the city announced an architectural competition for the renovation and use of the site, and the winner was the Brno studio M2AU.

According to the city hall, the transport terminal in Dvůr Králové nad Labem is an important transfer point for public transport across the entire Hradec Králové Region. "Currently, however, it does not meet the standards of modern transport," stated the mayor and also the deputy governor for transport Jan Jarolím (ANO) earlier.

In recent years, several cities in the region have opened modern bus stations. In July 2020, Jaroměř in the Náchod region opened a terminal for nearly 70 million crowns. The terminal with a departure hall for 65 million crowns was built by Nová Paka in the Jičín region in 2020. In 2018, new bus stations were opened in the towns of Hostinné in the Trutnov region and Broumov in the Náchod region.
