Pasohlávky - The leadership of Pasohlávky in the Brno area will contact experts to obtain a structural and technical assessment of the condition of the St. Linhart Church. It is the last reminder of the village of Mušov, which was flooded in 1987 when the Nové Mlýny reservoirs were filled. The church is not in good condition and falls within the cadastre of the Pasohlávky municipality. The village, with its 770 inhabitants, does not have the means for its restoration, said their mayor Martina Dominová (Moravians).
The church on the island in the middle of the New Mlýny reservoir is one of the landmarks of Pálava. It is completely inaccessible to the public due to birds nesting on the island. "When New Mlýny froze this year and ice skaters reached the island, a wave of criticism appeared on social media, claiming the church is in terrible condition. There were even claims that the fundraising for its rescue from 2015 is a fraud, which is not true," Dominová noted.
Due to the new wave of interest in the church, the mayor reached out to the Brno office of the National Heritage Institute. She presented the results of the meeting to the council members on Wednesday.
"I found out that our plan to transfer the church to state or county ownership is not realistic. At the same time, we cannot afford to pay for its repair. The NPÚ advised us to first have a structural and technical assessment done to determine the condition of the building," stated Dominová.
The council agreed that the assessments, which cost tens of thousands of crowns, can be ordered by the municipality's leadership from recommended experts. This will be followed by a project for the preservation of the monument, from which the estimated costs of this work should also arise. "We agreed in the council that we will check whether we could obtain a grant from the South Moravian Region for the development of the project. We then want to seek funding for the actual rescue of the church from national and European grant programs," added the mayor.
According to her, the preservation of the church will not be a matter of a few years due to the high costs. However, there are still people living in Pasohlávky who moved from Mušov before it was flooded, and the leadership of Pasohlávky wants to honor their emotional connection to the last reminder of their former home.
The St. Linhart Church probably originated before the middle of the 13th century and originally had a smaller floor plan, undergoing several reconstructions, the last being a neo-Gothic one at the beginning of the 20th century. After the creation of the Nové Mlýny reservoir and the flooding of Mušov, it remained the only reminder of the village on the island in the middle of the three reservoirs.
