Plzeň – Plzeň has begun construction on the sports and recreational center Posed on the outskirts of the city for 25 million CZK. It is being built near the Ejpovice railway tunnel, close to the Chlum lookout tower, in an area popular for suburban recreational forests, said the spokeswoman for the Plzeň 4 district, Doubravka Věra Zilvarová.
The center will offer a viewpoint of Plzeň's landmarks, refreshments, a resting meadow, facilities for cyclists and inline skaters. It will be located at the entrance to the cycle path along the former railway line to Chrást, which is the most-used cycling route in the Plzeň region. According to the spokeswoman, the project is designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape as much as possible. It is expected to be completed by the end of September.
"It is a place that people have discovered on their own. Even now, residents from many parts of Plzeň are heading here. This is where the cycling path begins, the Horní Berounka nature park is located here, and you can see Chlum and the Church of St. George from this spot," said the mayor of the district, Tomáš Soukup (ANO). He noted that terrain modifications are currently in progress. "Paved paths and sidewalks will be constructed to ensure the area is safely accessible," said deputy mayor Jan Kakeš (ANO).
There will be a simple wooden structure for seating, a viewpoint, refreshments, and wooden play elements for children. "There will also be lockers for shoes and luggage. A second building will serve as facilities for the pump track," Kakeš said. Trees and shrubs will be planted.
"A significant sports feature will be a generous pump track covering about 1,000 square meters," the spokeswoman stated. It will be divided by difficulty levels. "There is nothing like it anywhere in the Czech Republic," said freeride rider Tomáš Zejda, who designed the pump track. It will offer three tracks so that everyone can enjoy riding and allow riders to progress in their performance.
According to Zilvarová, residents wanted the pump track in the participatory budget. "Another part of the sports and recreational center will be a resting meadow where it will be possible to relax or hold smaller cultural events," she added.
