Brno - The multifunctional building between the Brno streets Křenová, Vlhká, and Skořepka, which was originally intended only for parking, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027. How the costs of the project, previously estimated at nearly 120 million crowns, have changed will only be clear after the complete project documentation is submitted. Jaroslava Bílá, spokesperson for the municipal company Brněnské komunikace, which is in charge of the construction, told ČTK.

The parking house with 226 spaces was supposed to be built on the site of a parking lot with barriers just a few dozen meters from the historic center. Construction began in March and was expected to last two years. The project faced criticism from some politicians and experts, primarily due to its architectural design. In June, the city announced that the building would look different and its function would change as well. The building will serve not only for parking but also for commercial enterprises and housing. Although construction costs will increase, the return on investment is expected to decrease.

Before the work was halted, workers managed to relocate the engineering networks. In the meantime, new project documentation was created, accounting for commercial space on the ground floor, apartments on the upper floors, and fewer parking spaces. After several months, according to Bílá, the architectural-construction solution for the lower structure, namely the piles and the foundation slab, is completed. "After the resumption of work at the construction site, construction work on the foundation began. The expected completion of the multifunctional building is the third quarter of 2027," Bílá said.
