Rakovník - Rakovník has repaired the roof of the heritage-protected Sokolovna, replacing aluminum sheets with copper ones. The reconstruction began last year and cost over 19 million crowns, of which nearly 13 million was paid by the city from a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development. The work is completed, and now we are awaiting approval, said today the spokesperson of the Rakovník city hall, Kateřina Hradilová.

Representatives of the Rakovník city hall had the complete documentation for the gradual reconstruction of the building prepared back in 2011, divided into phases. One of the earlier investments was the replacement of windows and doors. The year before last, Rakovník built new sanitary facilities in the Sokolovna. This was followed by the commencement of the roof repair. "This is the final phase," stated the mayor of Rakovník, Luděk Štíbr (ODS).

In addition to the new roof surface, Sokolovna now has new copper plumbing elements and an repaired roof structure and beams using traditional carpentry methods. The reconstruction also included the repair of ceiling structures, including the ceilings above the large hall (gymnasium) and the small hall. The cornices and parts of the chimneys have been restored to their original shape. In contrast, the builders removed previous unsuitable and provisional repairs to the roof structure.

The Sokolovna is a national cultural monument. It was built between 1912 and 1914 according to the design of architect Otakar Novotný. It is used by athletes from children's age groups to seniors.
