Ústí nad Labem plans to build a sports hall for youth training

Ústí nad Labem – Ústí nad Labem aims to build a multipurpose sports hall. It should primarily serve ball sports. The hall in the Bukov district is expected to be used mainly by youth and children for training. The town hall is currently having the project documentation prepared. Jiří Horák (ANO), a councilor, told ČTK this information. In previous years, the regional city has presented several plans for sports halls, none of which have been realized so far.

The councilors approved 1.5 million crowns for the preparation of the project documentation for the multipurpose sports hall. "The aim of this budgetary measure is to ensure sufficient financial coverage for the expenses related to the implementation of the stated investment project and to allow for the continuation of project preparation in accordance with the signed contract," said Horák. According to him, the hall should mainly serve the students who currently use gymnasiums at elementary schools for training. The hall will not have the parameters to host competitions.

In recent years, the city leadership headed by the ANO movement has presented several plans for new sports facilities. In 2019, it was the construction of a multifunctional sports hall, and in 2021, a training ice rink. Neither of these sports facilities has been realized by the city. In Ústí nad Labem, there is an ice rink, right next to it is a football field and an athletic stadium. In the Klíše district, there is an older basketball hall and a new smaller basketball hall built by a private club.

Last December, Ústí presented a study for a new athletic hall. It is planned to include three courts for sports clubs and a running tunnel. The capacity is expected to be for 2,500 spectators. Mayor Petr Nedvědický (ANO) stated at that time that the municipality wants to have the project ready by the end of 2026, after which construction will begin on the municipal land, and it could be completed in 2028. According to Horák, the preparation is ongoing, and the exact dimensions are being addressed so that they meet the requirements for hosting top-level competitions. The facility is intended to serve not only regional athletes but also representatives of the Czech Republic, other sports clubs, and, due to its accessibility, athletes from Germany.
