Kopřivnice – In Kopřivnice in the Nový Jičín region, demolition of the old municipal swimming pool will begin. In its place, a modern sports facility matching the current needs of visitors will be built at a cost of over 200 million crowns. The project includes a complete renovation of the water treatment technology, pool basins, water features, and facilities for visitors and staff. Operations in the new complex are expected to start next summer. This was announced today by city hall spokesperson Lucie Macháčková.

"The foundation of the new swimming pool will consist of two stainless steel pools, which will be extended to 50 meters. The pool designated for fitness swimming will have six swimming lanes and a width of 13 meters, while the second pool for relaxation and children's water activities will be 23.6 meters wide," the spokesperson stated.

The area will include a children's wading pool, shallows, and various water features. A water slide will be there again. "The shallows will be connected to new paved areas, sunny terraces with sun loungers, and a landscaped lawn. The wading pool will be shaded by a steel structure with a light wooden overhead roof," Macháčková added.

The building housing the main entrance and ticket office will have a new appearance. It will include restrooms, showers, changing rooms, secure lockers, staff facilities, lifeguard quarters, first aid, equipment rental, and a café. Photovoltaics will be installed on the roof.

The reconstruction will be managed by the BB-Key Kopřivnice consortium, which consists of the companies Berndorf Bäderbau and První Key-Stav. "This is a consortium of two proven companies that will carry out the renovation for 200.2 million crowns, including VAT. We will use a preferential loan of 100 million crowns provided by the National Development Bank, along with a related grant of 25 million crowns. We received a positive decision on this grant as a Christmas gift at the end of last year," said Jiří Štěpán, head of the city development department. The city hall will also try to secure a grant for the installation of photovoltaic panels.

On Tuesday, the construction site was handed over and demolition work will soon begin. "According to the contract, the demolition work should be completed within 74 days from the handover of the construction site, and the operational test of the completed and filled swimming pool should be performed within 531 days. Thus, the first visitors could take a swim in the summer of 2027," the spokesperson mentioned.
