Valašské Meziříčí – Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín area is preparing the construction of a parking garage with a capacity of up to 189 spaces near the square. It is set to be built on the site of the parking lot in Polášková Street, the town hall representative announced today in a press release.
"The square and the center of our city are frequently visited not only during regular cultural events but practically all year round. This is also evidenced by the traffic counting that we had processed. The data shows that over 20,000 mostly personal vehicles turn from Sokolská Street towards the center every week. The vast majority of them need a place to park, yet the capacity of the largest parking lot on Polášková Street is only 87 vehicles, which is insufficient," stated Mayor Robert Stržínek.
Therefore, the city is considering the construction of a parking garage at the site of the parking lot. The design was created by architect Zdeněk Fránek, who is the author of parking garage studies in Dolní Břežany, Plzeň, and Karlovy Vary. The three-story building will have up to 189 parking spaces. "The new parking garage will not only be used by visitors and clients of shops and institutions in the center of our city, but it should also serve the residents of the adjacent housing estate. We have also consulted its form and location with the owners of neighboring properties and with preservationists," said the mayor.
The proposal includes an entrance and exit from the parking garage on Polášková Street, and the town hall is also working on another option. "This is the connection of the entrance to the parking garage directly from Sokolská Street. The traffic counting indicates that on average, 12,000 vehicles a week turn from the roundabout U Panáčka towards the city center. With this connection, we could direct a significant part of the traffic directly to parking in the new building," Stržínek stated.
The supporting structure of the parking garage will consist of reinforced concrete columns and ceilings. The façade is proposed in two variants, with larch timber logs of various diameters or from concrete cornices. The roof will be flat, adorned with greenery. "Thanks to this study, we have gained a clearer idea of what the new parking garage will look like. However, we are still at the beginning. Now, we have the announcement of a tender for the contractor of the project documentation, who should prepare the entire construction up to the execution documentation and also refine the costs currently estimated at 250 million crowns," the mayor stated.
