Brno – The Tugendhat villa in Brno, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, was visited by a record over 57,000 people last year. The previous year it was just under 56,000 visitors. Nearly 15,000 people visited the newly opened Arnold villa last year, and the still unrenovated Wittal villa was seen by 3,000 visitors through so-called urbex tours. The data was published by the Museum of the City of Brno, which manages the monuments. According to the museum, Špilberk Castle had the second highest attendance in its history.

"Although Špilberk did not surpass the absolute maximum, it still reached the second highest number in history: nearly 153,000 paying visitors and approximately 700,000 people in the castle grounds. In addition to the casemates, more people were able to visit all other tours and exhibitions," said the director of the museum, Zbyněk Šolc.

The most popular exhibition at Špilberk, the casemates, is currently undergoing changes due to the reconstruction of the pathway through which water was leaking into the dungeon. The museum management plans to open a new exhibition in the casemates in the second half of this year.

The Wittal villa was taken over by the museum for management at the end of 2024, and it is currently preparing for its reconstruction. However, last year it made the villa accessible during so-called urbex tours, which showcase the original state of the building before reconstruction. The villa tours will also take place this year, with the first dates scheduled for March, and tickets must be purchased online.

In addition to regular exhibitions, the museum expanded educational activities last year, increasingly utilizing digital media. It prepared summer schools in villas and gardens as well as day camps at Špilberk.
