Brno - Brno will commemorate the 130th anniversary of the birth of architect Bohuslav Fuchs, for example, with a traveling inflatable sculpture. The life of this key figure in Brno's modern architecture will also be celebrated through concerts, theatrical performances, and an online game. The Museum of the City of Brno is preparing an intervention in its permanent exhibition dedicated to Brno architecture, said Jindřich Chatrný from the museum to ČTK.
Urban planner, architect, and representative of functionalism, he designed some of the most famous buildings in Brno in the first half of the 20th century. The authors of the project Slávy Fuchs want to place an inflatable sculpture in front of several of these buildings.
"The pneumatic sculpture plays with the idea of whether Bohuslav Fuchs, as an architect of European format, should have a classic statue in the city where he worked. And if so, where it should stand. At the same time, we say that the best sculptural monuments are his buildings, provided we take good care of them," explained one of the project's authors, Rostislav Koryčánek, on the faculty's website.
The sculpture will gradually appear in front of the former Moravian Bank at Freedom Square, the Avion hotel, or in front of the bus station by the Grand. Its journey will begin at Špilberk Castle on March 24, coinciding with the opening of the exhibition intervention "The New World of Bohuslav Fuchs and Rudolf Sandal," which is being prepared by the Museum of the City of Brno.
"The intervention will highlight Fuchs's connection to Brno, which can already be seen in the permanent exhibition. It will also emphasize the work of photographer Rudolf Sandal, who was Fuchs's court photographer and brought his work into public awareness not only in our country but throughout Europe. All displayed photographs will be originals," described Chatrný. The exhibition will also feature residential accessories designed by Fuchs. "We are collaborating with a glassworks in Květná, where some glass items were produced based on his original designs," added Chatrný.
The celebrations will also move into the digital world. An online game, "Bohuslav Fuchs: Architect, Husband, and Father," is being prepared, as well as a competition where participants will reconstruct Fuchs's works in the game Minecraft. The City of Brno has also announced a grant competition worth up to 50,000 crowns for the creation of decorative and utilitarian objects, fashion pieces, or culinary specialties.
