High Mýto – High Mýto continues to prepare for a comprehensive modernization of the city library. The project documentation is being completed, and the details of the interiors are being refined. Next year, the town hall aims to obtain a building permit. The city wants to acquire a grant for the reconstruction, said Deputy Mayor Martin Krejza (ODS) to ČTK. The costs were originally estimated at 51 million crowns. According to Krejza, they have managed to reduce this somewhat, yet the price will still reach several tens of millions.

"We will definitely be looking for a way to some sort of grant,” Krejza stated. The city library has been operating on the ground floor of the M-club building on Litomyšlská Street since the early 1990s, when the original restaurant U Koruny and other storage areas were rebuilt for its needs. It no longer meets current requirements, with outdated furnishings and used systems. The philosophy of the library has also changed, evolving from a simple lending service into a cultural venue where exhibitions, lectures, and concerts are held.

Architect Radek Schwab from the LBNK architects studio, who is from the city, has proposed a new solution, resulting in building modifications and interior transformation, a new extension, and an atrium. Barrier-free access to the original building will be enabled by a gentle ramp in the vestibule, while all spaces will be interconnected by the demolition of partitions. The library will expand into the utility area of the building, where a multipurpose hall for lectures, training, discussions, and other activities will be created. A light courtyard extension will connect the children's and adult sections, centered around a green atrium inspired by monastery paradise gardens. Rainwater from a reservoir underneath will be used for lawn irrigation.

The changes in the library's operation will include open access to the storage areas. The open-stock principle will be utilized, where unused books will be placed on higher shelves directly in the lending areas.
