The Monastery - Zelená Hora Castle near Nepomuk in the Plzeň Region, known thanks to the novel and film Černí baroni, is being offered for sale by its owner - the village of Klášter in Plzeň Region. It has appeared in the listing of the Plzeň real estate agency JJ Reality, and the price is not specified. On Friday from 19:00 to 21:00, the municipality will hold a meeting for residents in the historically protected complex, including a discussion on the sale and its potential use, which will be streamed to the public, reported the event's coordinator Miroslava Brožová today.

"The owner of the castle, the municipality of Klášter, announced the intention to sell the castle in March," she stated. On Friday at 14:00, it will open to the public for free for the first time this year. "People can explore the entire area - the steward's house, cellars, ground floor of the castle, gardens, and the church, and from 15:00, they can attend a discussion with an actor from the film Černí baroni - Václav Vydra," said Brožová. The welcome of spring will include exhibitions, concerts, children's programs, and 70 stalls with crafts and refreshments. Over the weekend, the program continues for 150 CZK for two days, featuring a drumming show Awakening of the Zelenohorský Dragon, guided tours with the White Lady, performances by a magician, juggler, theaters, concerts, lectures by historians, and a discussion with actor Jiří Schmitzer.

The castle complex on a 4.5-hectare site has belonged to the nearby village of Klášter, which has 230 inhabitants, since 1992, but does not have enough funds for its repair and operation. "It includes the steward's house, a stable, a bastion at the entrance gate, and the recently renovated Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The entire complex is well maintained," states the website of the real estate agency. The castle is accompanied by an access road and a parking lot with 40 spaces. Whether you plan to turn the castle into a luxury hotel, wellness center, or another business project, its potential is limitless, according to the JJ Reality website. The agency did not specify the asking price but mentioned it would inform interested buyers who can apply until April 30.

Just two years ago, the Plzeň Region, the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, Post Bellum - Memory of the Nation, the Matice of Jan Nepomucký, the municipality, and the town of Nepomuk aimed to acquire hundreds of millions of crowns for the restoration of the landmark and to transform it into a place that would speak, for example, about communist totalitarianism, the persecution of churches, or auxiliary technical battalions. The landmark should gradually become a jewel of the tourism offering in the region, said Libor Picka (STAN), the regional councilor, to ČTK in August 2023. At that time, the region provided the municipality with 1.5 million CZK for basic construction, historical, and technical surveys of the area. The 15th-century castle, reconstructed by the Šternberks in 1669 and 1696, has, according to Picka, exceptional significance in the history and culture of the Czech state.
