Zlín - The Zlín region is preparing to restore the windows in the buildings of the Baťa Institute in the center of Zlín. A new coating and other repairs will protect the metal window structure from weather conditions while preserving the architectural value of the buildings, the spokesperson of the regional office, Soňa Ličková, informed CTK today. The Baťa Institute was formed by transforming the former industrial buildings 14 and 15 in the former Baťa factory complex. It houses the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín, the regional gallery of visual arts, and the regional library.
"The total estimated costs are around 18.5 million crowns, this year the region will provide ten million crowns for repairs, and the rest will be covered next year by the 14|15 Baťa Institute, which is a contributory organization of the Zlín region. We consulted the technical solution with architects, the National Heritage Institute, and also with the Department of Culture and Heritage Care of the city of Zlín," stated regional councilor Miroslav Zemánek (TOP 09). The work is scheduled to begin in the spring and will last until the end of next year.
The restoration will focus on renovating the coatings of the original metal frames from the outside, replacing the metal sheeting of some outer sills, and repairing damaged parts. "In total, it will involve more than four thousand square meters of metal window elements. The existing coatings no longer provide sufficient protection against weather influences. The new polyurethane coating will have a shade approved by the conservationists to maintain the original appearance of the buildings," the spokesperson stated.
