Participants in the Young Architect Award architectural competition will focus this year on designing solutions for rental housing. Both students and emerging architects up to 33 years old can submit their work until June 28, 2019. As in the previous year, the collaboration with the Institute of Planning and Development of the City of Prague (IPR Prague) continues, which not only selected one of the recommended locations that should serve as rental housing but also provided the facilities of the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) for the competition launch on February 27, 2019.

The ceremonial opening of the Young Architect Award (YAA) competition was combined with a discussion meeting focused on rental housing. Competitors can choose a location for their rental housing proposal at their discretion, but construction can also be proposed in the recommended locations in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava. Jitka Jeřábková from IPR Prague explained the competition brief and presented one of the recommended locations – Libeň-Hájek. New residential development here should define the public space of Pivovarnická and Na Hájku streets, where there are currently garages and unmaintained overgrown greenery.

The composition of the expert committee assessing the proposals of young architects significantly influences the level of the competition. Therefore, this time, renowned architects will sit in it, who, under the leadership of Regina Loukotová, the rector of the ARCHIP architectural school, will decide which works best meet the requirements of the competition. This year, the jury has also welcomed architect and public procurement expert Michal Fišer (atelier tři architekti), Adam Halíř from the atelier PROJEKTIL ARCHITEKTI, Czech Budějovice architecture popularizer Miroslav Vodák (CBArchitektura), and Jan Vondrák from the Liberec atelier Mjölk architekti. "The competitors' task will be to realize the potential of rental housing, integrate the design into the local context, respect the existing built environment and the composition of the population, etc. The subsequent benefit of the proposed solution for the overall quality of life in the area, as well as in the immediate and distant surroundings, is also important," says jury chairwoman Regina Loukotová.
