Prague – Today marks the end of the deadline for architectural studios to apply for the international competition for the design of the planned Philharmonic building near the Metro C station Vltavská. It is not yet known how many applicants have registered; according to the spokesman for the city's Institute of Planning and Development (IPR), Marek Vácha, there will be an evaluation of the submitted portfolios and a selection of studios that will prepare competition proposals. The city announced the competition on August 23.
Vácha stated that the list of progressing studios should be known by October 20. In March 2022, the selected competitors will submit their architectural designs for the Philharmonic and its immediate surroundings. The jury will begin evaluating the submitted designs in April next year, and the winner should be announced in May. Preliminary interest, according to previous information from the city, was confirmed by around 60 interested parties.
Overall, the building is estimated to cost 6.1 billion crowns, of which 4.9 billion will be construction costs and the rest for the project. According to the city's plans, funding should come from the city hall, the state, and private investors. The new Philharmonic will house the Czech Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Capital City of Prague FOK, and the music department of the City Library.
