Dvůr Králové nad Labem - The appearance of the new bus station in the sixteen-thousand-strong Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region will stem from an architectural competition. The station, initially estimated to cost up to 100 million crowns, will be created by renovating the existing bus station. The city purchased the site, which covers almost one hectare, for 9.9 million crowns from Arriva at the end of 2019.

"The construction of a modern bus terminal is one of the priority projects included in the city's action development plan," stated Mayor Jan Jarolím (ANO). According to him, the city decided to hold an architectural competition due to the significance and size of the entire project.

The city hall has already started preparing the architectural competition, and for instance, the city has appointed a jury. The city tentatively plans to commence the station's renovation in 2022. They would like to finance the construction with the help of European or state subsidies. According to the mayor, the cost of the construction will be clarified after discussions with the jury and the city council during the preparation of the competition conditions. Costs will also be influenced by whether the city purchases the station's dispatch building, for which it holds a right of first refusal.

In the past, Arriva offered the station area for sale to the city. The city initially negotiated the purchase at the end of 2018 but refused to accept the 12.7 million crowns requested by the company at that time. The company later lowered the price.

Dvůr Králové is not the only city in the Hradec Králové Region investing in improving public transport. In July last year, Jaroměř in the Náchod region opened a bus terminal costing nearly 70 million crowns. The bus terminal with a departure hall costing 65 million crowns was built last year by Nová Paka in the Jičín region. In 2018, new bus stations were opened in the towns of Hostinné in the Trutnov region and Broumov in the Náchod region.
