Dvůr Králové nad Labem - The sixteen-thousand-strong Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region has announced an architectural competition for the renewal and utilization of the bus station. The city has owned it since the end of 2019 and purchased the remaining properties within it last year. According to Mayor Jan Jarolím (ANO), the construction of a modern bus terminal is one of the priorities of the city hall.
"The existing bus station area is in unsatisfactory condition, and we want to offer the city's residents and visitors a modern and dignified environment with adequate facilities for their travel," the mayor stated today.
The city estimates that the design work could cost seven million crowns excluding VAT, and the reconstruction could amount to 70 million excluding VAT. The city would like to obtain a grant from European funds for the construction.
Architects should sensitively integrate the area into the city center. It should appropriately connect to 17th November Street and address parking and unloading areas. In addition to the station design, the city should acquire a broader urban and transport concept for the area.
In addition to 19 bus stops, architects will propose parking with approximately 20 spaces and bike stands. The proposals will include a passenger hall with an appropriate information system and social facilities for drivers. It will be up to the competitors to decide whether to use the existing check-in building or propose its alternative use or demolition. The design should allow the city to build the station independently as the first step.
The deadline for submitting proposals for the first phase of the competition is April 24. In the second phase, the jury will select up to six candidates who will further develop their proposals. The deadline for submitting proposals in the second phase is June 27. "The jury will evaluate both the overall quality of the urban, architectural, transportation, and landscape design of the competition proposal, as well as economic adequacy from the perspective of investment and operating costs," Jarolím stated. The winner is expected to be announced in the summer.
The nearly hectare area was purchased by the city from Arriva at the end of 2019 for 9.9 million. Last year, the parties agreed to purchase the dispatch building and the adjacent land for 4.95 million.
In recent years, several cities in the region have opened modern bus stations. In July 2020, Jaroměř opened a terminal costing nearly 70 million crowns. In 2020, Nová Paka built a terminal with a departure hall for 65 million crowns in the Jičín region. In 2018, new bus stations were opened by the towns of Hostinné in the Trutnov region and Broumov in the Náchod region.
