Pelhřimov - Pelhřimov wants to announce an architectural competition next year for the design of the former department store on Solní Street. It aims to ensure a high level of appearance for the building in the city center. This was stated by the mayor of Pelhřimov, Ladislav Med (ODS), to ČTK. The city purchased the building from a private owner last year. According to the mayor, its reconstruction will not start sooner than in two years. Additionally, it could also lead to improvements in the broader surroundings.

"There is a consideration to connect to the municipal courtyards, to the area under the Dean's Garden and to the charity (Charity Pelhřimov)," said Med. The charity could also relocate to the former department store and would gain larger spaces. "We would gain the opportunity to build municipal apartments under the Dean's Garden, for which some studies already exist," Med outlined plans for the next five to ten years. Charity Pelhřimov is also located on Solní Street.

According to Med, building apartments just 200 meters from Masaryk Square is important to prevent the city center from becoming depopulated.

Pelhřimov purchased the former department store a year ago for 48 million crowns. It has already commissioned a study for its use. "In the lower part, commercial spaces would remain, while the upper part would be for various institutions' needs. There are also plans for offices with a waiting room," said Med. The building could also house halls for the basic art school.
