The Society of Architecture Students at the Faculty of Architecture, CTU in Prague, organized the twenty-eighth edition of the Olověný Dušan competition this year for the best architectural and design projects at the faculty. The theme of this year's edition – without borders – stemmed from the shift of the competition to the online environment and the resulting opportunity to engage jurors from abroad. The international jury shared their experiences with students and the broader public in accompanying lectures that preceded the actual announcement of the results. This took place on March 4, 2021, at the Centre for Architecture and Urban Planning.
The aim of the competition is to provide a critical perspective on faculty education. As every year, the independent professional jury awarded the best projects and studios in the categories of architecture, including the fields of Architecture and Urbanism and Landscape Architecture, and design, including the field of Industrial Design. All students of the faculty who submitted a semester studio project automatically participated in the competition. In response to the feedback received from last year's edition, we decided to change the concept of the Olověný Dušan announcement. In order to allow greater connection between the jury and students, we moved away from the elitist concept of the competition focused on a formal gala evening and instead aimed to create a more friendly event that provides space for sharing practical experiences from the jury, which has much to offer the students. We hoped that the situation would allow us to organize this lecture day on campus, but the COVID period was not conducive to our idea. Nonetheless, we embraced the shift of the competition to the online environment as a challenge and an opportunity to invite architects and designers from abroad to the jury, who are no longer limited by the need to come to Prague in person. This year's Olověný Dušan was online and had no borders. The actual announcement of the winners was preceded by short lectures prepared for students and the wider public by the international jury, which can be viewed on the event's Facebook page. The background for the final announcement of the results was generously provided by the Centre for Architecture and Urban Planning of the Prague Institute of Planning and Development, from where the event was live-streamed. This allowed for the continuation of the previous collaboration between the Society of Architecture Students and CAMP.
