Písek - Písek is planning to build a parking garage near the city center. The facility is to be constructed at the corner of Komenského street and Žižková avenue, with estimated costs around 100 million crowns. The city will have a study conducted to determine how many parking spaces are lacking in the center, and will adjust the capacity of the garage accordingly. This was stated by the Deputy Mayor of Písek, Josef Knot (TOP 09).
"In the near future, we will announce an architectural competition for the project. We are also currently conducting a study that should clearly tell us how many parking spaces we need," said Knot. He added that the results of the study should be known to the city office by the end of March.
Knot mentioned that the lack of parking spaces has been a concern for Písek for some time. "This mainly concerns the city center. But also in the two larger housing estates of Portyč and Jih, the residents would surely welcome an increase in parking spaces," he stated.
The location at the corner of Komenského street and Žižková avenue is just a few minutes' walk from the center itself. The land belonged to the post office, which is located across the street, but the city managed to exchange it last year. "There is no parking garage in Písek, and we think this is an ideal place for it to be built," Knot said.
For eight years, the city has been vying for the land at the corner of Komenského street and Žižková avenue, which covers almost 5000 m². In 2009, it wanted to purchase it when the estimated price was over 17 million crowns. However, the Czech Post agreed only to an exchange, stating that the city still had to pay about six million crowns as compensation.
