Prague – The Prague 8 City Hall has announced a tender for the design of a planned primary school that is to be built on the Rohanské nábřeží. According to the architectural competition brief, the school should serve 810 students. The estimated value of the contract is 38.8 million crowns excluding VAT, as stated in the public procurement documents.
The new school in Karlín is intended to have 27 standard classrooms. It is also planned to build 12 specialized classrooms for teaching languages, natural sciences, and other subjects, workshops for practical activities, and practice kitchens. The building is also expected to include an auditorium, a library, spaces for after-school care, offices, and staff apartments. Three gymnasiums and outdoor sports facilities are also to be created. A school cafeteria and a kitchen capable of serving 1,500 meals daily are also planned. Construction costs are currently estimated at 670 million crowns excluding VAT, as stated in the competition brief.
Interested parties in the single-round competition can submit proposals until February 25. The proposals will be evaluated by a jury that will include architects Lada Kolaříková, Jan Kasl, Osamu Okamura, Martin Rusina, and the mayor of Prague 8 Ondřej Gros (ODS).
On Rohanský Island, Sekyra Group is currently constructing a new neighborhood, which is expected to be completed by 2033. At the junction of Karlín and Libeň, eight administrative buildings and around 3,200 residential units are to be built in five phases. The project includes a one-kilometer waterfront promenade, a primary school, and a park.
A new primary school is also planned in Komořany in Prague 12, expected to host about 810 students. According to earlier statements by the mayor of Prague 12, Jan Adamc (Pirates), the school could open in 2026. In Prague 9, a primary school "U Elektry" is currently being built, which will have 33 classrooms. The new building is expected to be completed in 2023.
