Prague - The district of Prague-Libuš has announced an architectural competition for the reconstruction and expansion of the elementary school in Písnice. The school's capacity is expected to increase from the current 160 students in the first grade to ideally 360, and a maximum of 440 children. The new building is intended to be energy-efficient. The project should include the reconstruction of the existing building, including the addition of a missing gym and specialized classrooms. The estimated cost of the construction work is 125 million crowns excluding VAT, according to the documents for the public contract. Interested parties can apply until January 27.

The new building is to feature home classrooms for students in grades 1 to 5, one preparatory class for a maximum of 19 children, and also variable classrooms that can be used for after-school care, specialized teaching, or potentially in the future for second-grade students. There will also be a class for polytechnic education and a gym that should also serve as a multipurpose hall. The construction modifications will also concern changing rooms, a canteen, and facilities for teachers and school management. The architectural solution should also include the calming of traffic on Ladislav Coňek Street and the immediate vicinity of the school.

The construction of the new building is to take place while the school is in operation, and after it is opened, the reconstruction of the existing building should be planned. Both buildings are to be connected.

The proposals will be financially rewarded. The winner will receive 260,000 crowns, second place is awarded 200,000 crowns, and third place is associated with a prize of 150,000 crowns. Among the other participants, of whom there may be a maximum of ten according to the competition rules, a total of 490,000 crowns will be distributed.

The school building in Písnice dates back to 1888. It was insulated about five years ago. The elementary school focuses on foreign language teaching. It prefers a lower number of students in classrooms - even with an increase in capacity, it plans for 24, exceptionally 28 children per class.

The district of Prague-Libuš is located in the southern part of Prague and has a population of over 10,000 people. The municipality manages two elementary schools and there are also two private elementary schools operating here.
