After three quarters of a year, the lookout tower on Mount Libín was opened to the public

Prachatice – After three-quarters of a year, the lookout tower on Mount Libín near Prachatice has reopened to the public. It had been inaccessible since last autumn due to reconstruction. The renovation of the 27-meter high stone lookout tower at the summit of Libín, at an elevation of 1,094 meters, cost nearly eight million crowns. The leadership of Prachatice believes that the rebuilt structure will become a sought-after tourist attraction. Jan Kotrba, the deputy mayor of Prachatice, told ČTK.

"We are not far from Český Krumlov, which attracts thousands of tourists. Libín could become a new attraction for them as well. Moreover, we want to show that Šumava is not only Kvilda or Modrava, but that we also have other interesting places here. Hopefully, the lookout tower on Libín will help alleviate the overtourism of some locations," he stated.

The reconstruction of the lookout tower, which was built in 1883 and from which the Alps can be seen in good visibility, included a new façade, windows, and doors, among other things. Kotrba added that entry to the lookout tower is currently free. "We have issues with the turnstile that the supplier needs to resolve. Until then, visitors will not have to pay for entry to the lookout tower," he said. Subsequently, the ticket price will be 20 crowns.

This is another project that the city has prepared at Libín recently. Last year, for example, it opened a reconstructed mountain lodge, which Prachatice purchased in 2019 for 8.6 million crowns. The renovation cost 26 million. At the end of May this year, the city also opened the first part of terrain trails for recreational and sports cyclists on Libín. The trail is 6.4 kilometers long. Prachatice intends to gradually build routes totaling over 44 kilometers.

"Libín should become one of the landmarks of our surroundings. This is a location primarily intended for hikers and cyclists," stated the deputy mayor of Prachatice.
