Prague - Prague has announced a public procurement with an estimated value of 49.2 million crowns excluding VAT for the planned reconstruction of the swimming pool in Motol. This is indicated by information published in the public procurement bulletin. Instead of the current facilities at the swimming pool, a new, significantly larger building will be constructed with a restaurant, sauna, and wellness center. The plan was previously criticized by local residents, who claim it is unnecessarily oversized.
The swimming pool is located by the Motol ponds between Plzeňská and Zahradníčkova streets. According to the city, the current facilities are in a state of disrepair and do not meet existing standards. The project has been prepared by the city for a long time, and delays have occurred due to criticism from local residents, such as from the Homolka - Motol neighborhood association. The city hall of Prague 5 also had comments regarding the scope of the planned construction.
However, according to the resolution of the council on launching the tender, the plan remained in its original form. The contract does not include the demolition of the existing buildings, which, according to the information in the bulletin, the city will ensure itself in advance. The city has a building permit for the project, and construction is expected to start this year and be completed by next spring.
The new two-storey building will, according to the city, complement the current concept of the swimming pool with additional activities allowing for year-round operation. The ground floor will continue to serve the purposes of the swimming pool, with showers, changing rooms, toilets, and refreshments. On the second floor, the city plans to have a café, wellness facilities, and the upper part of the restaurant. The architecture of the building is inspired by water and maritime motifs.
