Přibyslav - Přibyslav in the Havlíčkův Brod region has announced an architectural competition for the reconstruction of Bechyňovo Square. Interested parties can submit their proposals until November 10. The town, which has a population of around four thousand, wants to gradually renovate the entire area of the square, including the bus station and the entrances to the connecting streets. A condition is to maintain parking spaces for at least 80 cars. Michael Omes (for KDU-ČSL), the deputy mayor of the town, told ČTK that the renovation of the square could start in 2025.

"We are looking forward to what the architects will propose, even though we know the square has its limits - buildings, roads, there is already some designated greenery here. But we will be excited to see what the architects bring, what they come up with," said Omes.

According to him, currently about 120 cars can park in Bechyňovo Square, although not all are parked in official parking spots. The town hall wants to retain parking in the city center also with regard to local entrepreneurs, for whom it is important that customers have where to park. "The city's requirement is to maintain at least 80 parking spaces, and the recommended number of parking spaces is about 100," Omes said.

The bus station, which has stands for six buses, should be smaller.

Přibyslav has been preparing the renovation of the square in the city center for some time. The aesthetic appearance is not the only important factor; the technical condition of engineering networks and roads is also crucial. A busy road runs through the square, which architects must also address in their proposals. The renovation should be divided into several phases to ensure the square remains at least partially accessible at all times.

Rough estimates of the cost of the work are 150 million crowns. "The price is based on the calculations of paved areas and greenery according to practice. It was established mainly because the architectural competition also involves setting rewards for the winning designs, first, second, and third places, which are derived from the price," Omes said. The town plans to distribute about 1.2 million crowns in prizes.

A jury that includes architect Aleš Burian is expected to select the winner at the end of November. "Mr. Architect Burian is the chairman of the jury. He is a renowned known architect. He won the square in Havlíčkův Brod with his design, as well as several others. We are pleased that he accepted the invitation," Omes said.

The town plans to first present the three best designs to the public. A contract will be signed with the author of the winning design for further project documentation. The projected costs for the project are 8.6 million CZK (excluding VAT).
