The competition for the design of the cable car from Prague's Podbaba to Bohnice has five finalists

Prague - The jury selected five finalists in the international architectural competition announced by the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) for the design of the planned cable car between Podbaba and Bohnice. CTK was informed about this in a press release by the company's spokesperson Aneta Řehková. A total of 23 applicants from nine European countries entered the competition, with the five finalists now working on their competition proposals. The results are expected to be known in August.

According to Řehková, the jury selected the Polish studio DWAA, London-based Grimshaw Architects, the Czech firm ov architekti in collaboration with Olgoj Chorchoj, the Austrian atelier of the Norwegian studio Snøhetta, and the London office William Matthews Associates as finalists. The studios will develop and present the architectural design for all three stations and the five supports of the planned cable car.

The cable car is intended to provide a direct connection between Prague 8 and Prague 6 until the planned tram line with a new bridge in Troja is completed. On the more than two-kilometer route, the city plans to have stations at Podbaba, Troja, and Bohnice. It will feature cabins with a capacity of 35 people and is expected to transport up to 2,000 people per hour in one direction.

The jury of the competition is chaired by Dutch architect Arjan Dingste, and includes German designer Christiane Bausback, as well as Czech experts designer Henrieta Nezpěváková, architect Patrik Kotas, and designer Ivan Němec. Additionally, representatives from the city and the affected city districts sit on the jury.

In July, DPP plans to announce a design competition for new vehicles for the Petřín cable car. This competition was previously announced but was later canceled because only one participant applied. "DPP expects to know the winner of the design for the new vehicles for the Petřín cable car during this September," Řehková stated.
