Prague - The first terminal for the high-speed railway will take on more concrete shapes. The Railway Administration has started preparing an architectural competition for the design of the station Prague East, near Nehvizdy in the Central Bohemia Region, which should be announced in the autumn. The Railway Administration informed about this today. The terminal will be part of the high-speed rail line between Prague and Brno, the first part of which is expected to begin construction in 2025.

The goal of the architectural competition will be to find the optimal solution for the design of the terminal itself and also its connection with the wider surroundings and the nearby D11 highway. Around 3000 parking spaces are to be created at the terminal, which will be directly linked to bus routes of Prague and Central Bohemia transport. Therefore, the Railway Administration has involved representatives of Nehvizdy and other surrounding municipalities in the preparation of the competition. The Czech Chamber of Architects should oversee the course of the competition.

According to the Railway Administration, the upcoming terminal will serve as a starting point for residents of the Prague-East district and other parts of the region and the northeast of the capital. The journey by train from the terminal to the center of Prague will take about 15 minutes after the completion of the line, while in the other direction, the terminal will be connected to routes to Brno, Ostrava, Hradec Králové, Dresden, and other cities.

The terminal will be part of the planned section from Prague Běchovice to Poříčany. This project is among the most developed plans for the preparation of high-speed rail in the Czech Republic; the administration has announced a contract for the development of documentation for the spatial planning process. The state is further preparing sections of the high-speed line from Přerov (Prosenice) to Ostrava - Svinov on the core route between Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, the section Brno (Modřice) - Vranovice on the Brno - Vienna/Bratislava axis, and also two sections between Prague and Dresden.

The construction of high-speed lines is expected to significantly increase the capacities of the current railway network and also speed up connections on busy routes. Discussions on construction in the Czech Republic have been ongoing since the 1990s, but preparations began only in recent years.
