The Building of the Year in the Liberec Region is the headquarters of the glass company Lasvit

Jablonec nad Nisou (Liberec Region) - The new headquarters of the glass company Lasvit in Nový Bor in the Česká Lípa District has received the main Karel Hubáček Award in the Building of the Year 2020 competition in the Liberec Region. The jury appreciated the interesting combination of two historical houses from the late 18th century with modern extensions. At the announcement of the competition results at the Eurocentrum in Jablonec, this was stated today by the spokesman for the Liberec Region, Filip Trdla. Lasvit's headquarters has also received the Heritage of the Year 2019 award from the Liberec Region.

Lasvit has been working on the restoration of two historical houses in the center of Nový Bor since 2015. One used to be a glass manufactory as early as the beginning of the 19th century, while the other served as a residential building. "We chose a house that served glassmakers two hundred years ago and breathed new life into it - again connected with glass and with the roots that this traditional craft has in the region," said Lasvit President Leon Jakimič a year ago during the ceremonial opening of the new headquarters.

Lasvit complemented the historical houses with two new modern buildings. One of them is a house clad in glass tiles, which the company developed specifically for this building. In contrast, there is a black house covered in the same style, but instead of glass, the builders used a special black cement cladding tile. This created a complex that serves not only as the headquarters of the glass company but also as a showcase for the work of its glassmakers. For its headquarters, Lasvit also received a public award, an innovation award, and took first place in the new construction category.

The Building of the Year competition in the Liberec Region has been held for the sixteenth time, and since last year it has borne the name of architect Karel Hubáček, the author of the Liberec Ještěd. This year's edition registered 48 projects. In addition to the main award, the jury presents awards in five other categories, and the governor Martin Půta also has his own award.
