In March of this year, the seventh edition of the nationwide conceptual competition SUPERSTUDIO will take place, where winners will receive, among other things, a reward of 30,000 CZK. The competition is open to all university students regardless of their field of study or year. The final evening is open to the public.

The concept of the competition is based on a strict time limit of 24 hours, during which two to three-member teams search for the best solution to a unified assignment related to current architectural and urban planning topics. Immediately after that, there follows a three-minute presentation in front of a professional jury consisting of prominent figures from the architectural scene. The first round will commence on March 3, 2017 on academic grounds in all cities with architectural education – in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and Liberec. From each city, the three best teams will advance to the finals, which will take place a week later on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the industrial Studio ALTA in Prague. The public is also invited to the final evening. Teams can register from February 13, 2017 through the form on the competition website.

Superstudio is a team conceptual competition for architecture students regardless of their year or school. It takes place non-stop over 24 hours, with the participants learning the theme only at the start of the competition. The competition originates from Australia, where it is organized by SONA, and in the Czech Republic, it takes place in agreement and with the consent of the original organizers. Superstudio is held on academic grounds in all cities with architectural education (Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Liberec). Anyone studying in the Czech Republic at the time of the event can participate free of charge. The final presentations are, if possible, accessible to the public.

Who can participate?

University students regardless of year, field of study, or school.

Two- to three-member teams of any composition compete.

Participation is free.

24 hours

The competition theme is unified, and from the moment of assignment, teams have 24 hours to process it.

Presentation and Conditions

After 24 hours, teams submit a presentation and a brief report (~100 words), which authorizes them to potentially present their work again.
Then they present their proposal before the jury in a limited format (PPT/PDF, ideally in 4:3 format, maximum 10 slides, maximum 200 seconds). It is also possible to present a single slide for 50 seconds and finish.
Outside of the format of the final presentation, the creation is not limited in any way.
After all teams have presented, the jury will announce the winners.

Second Round

From each city, the first three teams* proceed to the second round, which will be held live in the space "Praha v Brně." The advancing teams will have time between the first and second rounds to refine their presentations and text as they see fit. The format of the presentation remains unchanged. The final projects will be assessed on-site by a professional jury, which will determine the absolute winner.

*In the case of a low number of participants, the jury may decide to advance fewer teams.
