Superstudio today at 6 PM in the Antiques Shop and Club Fiducia. Young architects, an informed commentator, and the current topic of construction in New Karolina and revitalization of the center of Ostrava.

Presentation of the results of this year's conceptual architectural-urbanistic competition Superstudio, which is intended for architecture students regardless of their year or school and this year addressed the issue of construction in New Karolina. Each team is always tasked with preparing the assignment in the form of an authorial report and PowerPoint presentation of a maximum length of 10 slides within a time limit of 200 seconds.

The evening will be hosted by architect Radim Václavík.

As part of the Archikultura Ostrava festival, the evening is a part of the Movable Holiday cycle, which regularly presents young researchers and artists once a month in Fiducia.

The assignment of the competition, whose results will be presented in Fiducia:
A new commercial and social center, Karolina, has emerged on the border (periphery) of the existing center of Ostrava. Future development will certainly be diverse and dynamic.

Main directions of development may be as follows:
A) Karolina will become the new center of Ostrava and will continue to develop. It will symbolically take on the image of Ostrava. The existing center will not develop further and will stagnate.
B) Karolina will not become the new center of Ostrava, but will continue to develop and strengthen. The existing center with its historic square will continue to fulfill the social function of the main square and center.
C) ?

Assignment

Indication of the future development of the center of Ostrava in the horizon of 10-50 years. The center is understood as the area of New Karolina in relation to the existing central square. It is anticipated that the theme will be ideologically processed in any form. Only texts, only diagrams, only graphic images, or their combination…

Conceptual areas
1) Should the newly emerging development and its functions compete with the existing center?
2) What is decisive for maintaining life in the existing center?
3) What can be done to revitalize the city?
4) Will any urban-architectural interventions revitalize the existing center? Which ones?
5) What other factors (non-architectural) are decisive for the development of the center and the entire city?
