Troja

A challenging task of expanding the Troja School was taken on by 28 competing teams from across Europe. During a two-day session, the jury, composed of representatives from the municipality, school, and experts, selected three proposals for recognition and awarded one a prize.

The winner was the proposal by the Italian studio Ravagnani Vecchi Architects, authored by Andrea Ravagnani, Elena Maria Rossi, and Chiara Nastasi from Rome, which the jury particularly praised for its sensitive approach to the location and the character of the entire Troja district, the modesty of the chosen solution, and the cultured facades that reflect the atmosphere of the educational institution well.

The competition jury included the mayor Tomáš Bryknar representing the municipality, along with council members Kateřina Tůmová, the deputy director of the elementary school, and Tomáš Drdácký, the deputy mayor. They were joined by the independent, professional jury comprising: Štěpán Valouch from the studio ov-a, Markéta Zdebská from BY architects, Matěj Draslár from the Swiss studio agps, and Martin Neruda, a finalist in the Smíchov School competition.

The competitors were tasked with restructuring school operations and proposing adequate spaces for special classrooms, changing rooms, or, for example, a staff room. Additionally, they were required to design a multifunctional hall that serves not only schools but also the municipality - which allocated a plot of land for it, located across the street from the existing building.
