INDEX 2 - exhibition of the Stolín brothers at OGL
The common thread between the brothers Petr (architect) and Jan (sculptor) Stolín is their developed ability to think spatially. The exhibition project aims to capitalize on their long-standing experience working with space, encompassing many conscious and incidental qualities acquired. It is a vision of a totally controlled environment, a space that is simultaneously constructed as open and offers perception of new spatial relationships. An active reinterpretation of space will be part of the project through architectural interventions, inserted partitions, light, sound, and the movement of visitors in the gallery. The goal is to bring an unusual experience of the usual experienced space.
The exhibition will explore the boundaries of architecture (specifically the exhibition hall space of OGL), without the intent to be radical for the sake of radicalism itself. The architecture of the gallery is perceived as a stable backdrop to human life and, as such, it should provide a support in the experienced instability. Spatial interventions are a consequence of stereotypes, a tested tradition, or a helplessness to translate artistic ideals into everyday life.
Defining the boundaries between architecture and new installation from this perspective is not easy, because sometimes architecture itself can form exactly such a point in the structure of the place or conversely can merge with the place. The boundaries of these positions are the basis for the planned interventions in the OGL space.
It can be stated, as has often been said, that architecture frames life, whether on a private level of individual space or a public level of shared gallery space. This frame is always a multi-layered web of relationships. It creates an exceptional place, in which both the physical knot of the place and a certain set of ideas are simultaneously emphasized. Between these oppositions, the project will build new connections, thus evoking new unexpected and ambiguous thematic associations.
